Your 1st Visit - Initial Evaluation
Our objective is to make sure your visit with us will be pleasant and informative. Your initial appointment will consist of an examination and discussion of any specific concerns you or your dentist has regarding your dentition. We will review any existing orthodontic problems as well as why these problems should be addressed, the optimal time frame to address these needs, and potential treatment options. If treatment is recommended, we will review with you an estimated cost of treatment and examples of anticipated appliances. An appointment will then be scheduled to obtain diagnostic records.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:
- Any current x-rays
- A list of medications you/your child are presently taking
- If you have dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to answer insurance related questions pertaining to your/your child’s treatment.
- Completed online or in office patient registration form

Diagnostic Records, Treatment Planning & Consultation
If it is determined that orthodontic treatment is indicated we will assist you in scheduling an appointment for diagnostic records. These records consist of study models (“molds”), diagnostic photographs and orthodontic x-rays.

Study Models Cephalometric X-Ray Panoramic X-Ray
Once these records have been taken, Drs. Thurston and Eitzen will study them and formulate an individualized treatment plan for you. At your consultation appointment the specific objectives of treatment, appliances to be used, and duration of treatment will be discussed in detail in addition to answering any questions you or your child may have about orthodontic treatment. Finally, our treatment coordinators will review the cost of the recommended treatment, set up financial arrangements for you, answer any questions regarding applicable insurance benefits, and assist you in scheduling the appropriate appointments to begin your orthodontic treatment.
Dental Care
Prior to initiating orthodontic therapy your family or pediatric dentist should make certain that all cavities have been treated and the health of your gingiva (gums) and underlying bone are free from disease. It is imperative that regular dental exams and cleanings continue during your orthodontic treatment. We recommend a 6 month cleaning and exam interval however, some patients may benefit from more frequent cleanings to assist with maintaining healthy teeth, gingival (gums) and underlying bone. Although our office will assist you in reminding you of the need for these visits it is your responsibility to schedule and maintain regular cleaning and exam visits with your dentist.
